FAMILIAR SPACES

April 3-30 2011

Familiar Spaces is a series photographed in Newfoundland which explores the things we collect and value – physical objects which relate to memory, tradition and loss – as well as the spaces in which they exist. While some may consider these objects insignificant & the spaces cluttered, others find a certain comfort in surrounding themselves with physical representations of memories - a tangible record of the meaningful moments and people from their lives. With the passage of time these objects and spaces change, slowly disappear and eventually become memories themselves.

Originally from Newfoundland and now based in Toronto, Mandy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on photography and printmaking. Since moving to Toronto she has taken a behind-the-scenes role in photography but 2011 finds her focus shifting back to her personal work with two upcoming photography exhibits this spring; a group show for Contact Festival, as well as Familiar Spaces, her first solo Toronto show.
